B.A.N.S History

Formed in 1978, the Bowhunters Association of Nova Scotia (well known within this region as BANS) is the province's recognized voice of bowhunters. BANS is a non profit organization which promotes bow hunting education, bow hunting safety and sound conservation decisions. Affiliated with the Nova Scotia Federation of Anglers & Hunters, our association is very active in lobbying government regarding sound wildlife, wildlife habitat, outdoor recreation issues and in promoting new bowhunting opportunities within the province.

The bowhunting regulations in Nova Scotia continue to change over time as a direct result of the Bowhunter Association's involvment. There have been several new additions, in recent years, providing excellent opportunities for those wishing to hunt with bow and arrow in our province. Whether you use traditional or compound equipment, Nova Scotia offers some of the best recreational bowhunting seasons. BANS also keeps abreast of these to help ensure quality bowhunting for the future.

Our bow hunting association membership will provide you with an opportunity to voice your input into these hunter issues. As a member you will receive a BANS crest, membership card and a one year subscription to the BANS Bulletin. This newsletter will keep you up to date on what is happening with regards to bowhunting in Nova Scotia, provide a forum for members to exchange ideas, learn new techniques and methods and pass on some 'tall tales'. BANS also hosts an annual shoot, "The BANS Bang-Up" , where bowhunters can come together to shoot 3-D and generally have a good time while meeting other members from across the region.
